Nunavut taxi rates
Iqaluit is live with the City’s current flat passenger taxi tariff.
The fare authority stays local.
Iqaluit does not need a road-distance meter for the standard local fare. Effective May 1, 2026 the City set the standard fare at $9.75 per passenger, while the Elders fare remains $8.00 and accompanied children under 10 ride free.
YFB taxis operate as shared rides. The airport page still carries an older $9.50 figure, so TaxiRates follows the newer City notice and explicitly explains why the displayed fare differs from the airport page’s stale amount.
Unsupported communities are not forced into the capital-city tariff.
TaxiRates expands market by market. A fare rule verified for Iqaluit is not automatically applied across Nunavut, because local licensing, operator pricing and airport arrangements can differ. New communities will be added only after a current municipal, territorial, airport or operator source is strong enough to support the result shown to passengers.
That same approach separates exact published fares from meter estimates. When a future fare change is known but the new schedule is not, TaxiRates can hold the number rather than pretend the existing tariff will continue unchanged.
A flat fare still needs passenger context.
The standard $9.75 amount is simpler than a meter, but it is not the same thing as a one-price vehicle charter. Iqaluit’s tariff distinguishes the standard passenger fare, the $8 Elders fare and the free accompanied-child rule. TaxiRates therefore presents the standard adult amount as the main result and keeps the passenger exceptions visible beside it instead of multiplying a group total automatically.
The shared-ride airport model is also worth knowing before arrival. A taxi may carry more than one passenger party, and drop-off order can follow the shortest-distance logic described by the airport. That does not change the City’s standard fare basis, but it can change the ride experience and travel time compared with a private point-to-point taxi in a larger city.
