Iqaluit uses a flat passenger fare
Effective May 1, 2026, the City of Iqaluit increased the standard taxi fare from $9.50 to $9.75. The Elders fare remains $8.00, and children under 10 ride free when accompanied by an adult. The City says the adjustment applies throughout areas of Iqaluit where taxi tariffs are enforced, so TaxiRates treats supported local trips as a flat per-passenger fare rather than a distance-based meter.
YFB taxis operate as shared rides
Iqaluit Airport says taxis are readily available and that local taxis operate as shared rides, with drop-offs prioritized by shortest distance. The airport transportation page still displays the older $9.50 figure, but the City’s April 2026 notice is newer and makes $9.75 effective May 1. TaxiRates therefore uses the current City tariff and notes the airport-page lag instead of repeating the outdated amount.
What the displayed fare means
The $9.75 result is the standard passenger fare, not the price for an entire vehicle carrying any number of people. Passenger-specific exemptions matter: an Elder uses the $8 rate, while an accompanied child under 10 rides free. For groups, TaxiRates explains those rules rather than multiplying automatically because the passenger mix is not collected in the basic route form.
