The City of Edmonton regulates taxi and accessible-taxi fares under Vehicle for Hire Bylaw 17400.

Meter rules

Edmonton taxis use fixed meter increments.

For a street-hail taxi, the regulated fare starts at $4.10 for the first 135 metres and adds $0.25 for each additional 135 metres. Waiting time adds $0.20 per 24 seconds. A taxi trip pre-arranged through an approved mobile app or written agreement may use the City’s $3.50 minimum instead.

The City states that no additional fees can be added to taxi and accessible-taxi rates. TaxiRates therefore does not invent fuel, booking or card surcharges.

Airport

Trips to YEG have a separate airport-zone cap.

For taxis carrying all passengers to Edmonton International Airport, the City requires the lesser of the regulated meter or the official YEG flat-zone rate. Because the exact zone depends on the pickup address, TaxiRates currently shows the verified rule and airport map instead of guessing a zone.
