The 2026 taxi meter
Whitehorse’s current fare schedule sets a $4.50 maximum flag rate and, from January 1, 2026 onward, a maximum $0.35 for each one-ninth of a kilometre or 12 seconds. GST is included. TaxiRates uses the route and the meter’s distance/time structure to estimate an ordinary taxi trip rather than inventing a flat airport fare.
The $22 airport rule is not universal
The by-law also sets a maximum $22 flat rate for transport of hotel guests in the defined Fare Zone to or from the Downtown Area and Whitehorse International Airport. That wording has eligibility conditions. TaxiRates therefore shows the normal meter unless the system can prove the passenger and trip qualify for the hotel-specific cap.
Airport service and trip planning
Whitehorse taxi service includes airport transportation, and the City regulates the industry through its Vehicle for Hire By-law. For a hotel trip, compare any quoted flat fare with the regulated maximum. For a home, business or other destination, use the exact street address so the route estimate reflects the actual distance.
