How local transportation provider pricing is regulated

The Municipality of Red Lake continues to list Taxi By-Law 1739-13 together with amending By-Law 55-2022. The amendment deletes the former Schedule A and replaces it with the current fare schedule effective July 15, 2022.

The replacement schedule sets a Red Lake-only meter, waiting time, six fixed townsite fares, a winter McKenzie Island addition for applicable Cochenour trips, and a 10% senior discount.

Red Lake Airport (YRL) ground transportation

The Municipality’s Red Lake Airport page lists local transportation provider at 807-727-2100 as a ground-transportation option, along with local rental-car contacts. The airport is municipally operated and publishes current 2026 airport fees and passenger information. Taxi service is therefore clearly available to airport users even though the current passenger taxi tariff is not presented on the airport page.

For a YRL pickup, contact the taxi company before travel when possible and give the flight time and exact destination. Red Lake is a regional community with several townsites, so the destination matters. The historic taxi framework includes both meters and set townsite fares, which is another reason TaxiRates should not reduce every trip to one generic per-kilometre formula without confirming the amended schedule.

What TaxiRates can calculate now

For a pickup and drop-off both within Red Lake, TaxiRates applies the published meter: $7.00 for the first 50 metres and $0.15 for each additional 40 metres or part. Waiting is $70 per hour and the published rates include HST.

TaxiRates also recognizes the six named set-fare pairs in Schedule A. Trips that do not match the explicit Red Lake meter scope or a named pair remain confirmation-only rather than being forced into the wrong rule.

The published set fares are Red Lake–Balmertown $35, Red Lake–Cochenour $40, Red Lake–Madsen $35, Balmertown–Cochenour $30, Balmertown–Madsen $55 and Cochenour–Madsen $60. The schedule says the same amounts apply in reverse.

YRL remains a separate fare-scope check. The airport lists local transportation provider, but the airport page does not publish a passenger fare and Schedule A does not explicitly assign YRL to one of the named townsite pairs. TaxiRates therefore asks for provider confirmation for airport trips instead of guessing.
