Why Okotoks stays in provider-quote mode

The Town of Okotoks maintains a current bylaw database and publishes its Business Licence and Traffic bylaws, but TaxiRates did not find a current general-public taxi fare schedule that sets one mandatory flag drop, per-kilometre charge or citywide flat fare for ordinary Okotoks passengers. Without that public tariff, a route distance by itself is not enough to produce a defensible taxi total.

That does not mean taxi service is unregulated in every respect, and it does not mean every provider charges the same amount. It means TaxiRates cannot honestly turn a nearby Calgary meter, an old rate, or a special-program amount into the general Okotoks fare. For an ordinary ride, the useful number is the current quote or pricing method supplied by the company taking the booking.

The Town publishes taxi fares, but only for an eligibility-based subsidy program

Okotoks operates a Community Access Program for qualifying residents who are age 60 or older or who meet the program's disability criteria. The Town's current transportation page lists established one-way amounts for approved program trips and identifies Town Taxi as the contracted taxi provider. Those amounts are part of a subsidy arrangement in which the passenger and Town share the eligible trip cost; they are not a universal retail tariff for everyone requesting a taxi in Okotoks.

This distinction is especially important for search and answer engines because the program table can look like a normal fare list when removed from its eligibility context. TaxiRates labels it as a special program instead of publishing the listed program amounts as ordinary taxi estimates. The Town also states that waiting time is not subsidized and that program rules apply to approved destinations and users.

Do not use Community Access rates for Okotoks to YYC

The Town expressly says airport trips are not eligible for Community Access Program subsidization. For that reason, the program's local and Calgary-area amounts cannot be reused as an Okotoks-to-YYC airport fare. An ordinary airport transfer should be quoted by the provider handling the trip, with the rider confirming whether the amount covers the complete transfer and any airport-related charge that the operator intends to pass through.

For the opposite direction, calculate the YYC-origin trip separately. Calgary International Airport currently publishes taxi pickup and drop-off fees, and airport-origin taxis operate under Calgary and airport-specific rules. A fare framework that applies when a taxi leaves YYC should not automatically be assumed for a ride that begins in Okotoks.

Ask for the complete amount before the vehicle is dispatched

In a provider-quote market, comparing a supposed per-kilometre average can be misleading. Ask what the total quote includes, whether waiting time can be added, whether an extra stop changes the amount, and whether a scheduled or late-night pickup is treated differently. If the trip crosses into Calgary, High River, Diamond Valley or another municipality, confirm that the quoted amount covers the full route rather than only the portion inside Okotoks.

TaxiRates now shows route context, the verified local pricing framework and a separate indicative market estimate where public pricing data is available. The estimate is not the Town's Community Access fare and should still be confirmed with the provider.

Calgary and Airdrie taxi meters do not become Okotoks meters

Okotoks sits south of Calgary, close enough that many trips cross municipal boundaries. Calgary has its own regulated taxi rate structure, and Airdrie has a separate City Schedule B meter. Neither tariff becomes an Okotoks public taxi rate simply because a trip connects the communities. TaxiRates starts with the pickup jurisdiction and applies another city's meter only when the governing rule actually supports it.

This also matters for return travel. A ride beginning in Calgary or at YYC may produce a different type of fare result from the same route in reverse. Check each direction separately, especially for airport trips, rather than assuming the first quote or meter applies both ways.
