Taking a taxi from the new YHU terminal

YHU Terminal says dedicated taxi pickup and drop-off zones are located immediately outside the main terminal doors and that taxis operate around the clock. That gives passengers a straightforward door-to-door option without having to transfer at a métro station first. TaxiRates recognizes YHU as an airport endpoint and applies the Québec meter only when the other end of the trip is inside the supported Longueuil or Greater Montréal context.

The airport also offers METbus service to Longueuil métro station and rideshare pickup areas. The existence of those alternatives does not change the taxi tariff, but it matters when comparing total journey convenience. A traveller going downtown may compare a direct taxi against METbus plus the métro, while someone travelling to a South Shore hotel, home or business may prefer the direct road trip. The calculator provides the taxi cost framework so that comparison starts with a regulated source.

How TaxiRates calculates a YHU taxi estimate

For trips beginning between 5:00 a.m. and 10:59 p.m., the current CTQ tariff starts at $4.10, then uses $2.05 per kilometre or $46.20 per hour when the vehicle is moving below the transition speed or waiting. Night trips beginning from 11:00 p.m. through 4:59 a.m. start at $4.70, use $2.35 per kilometre and $53.40 per hour. The published components include taxes, and TaxiRates adds the separate $1.05 trip levy required by Québec.

A physical taximeter switches between distance and time according to speed. Route services provide distance and predicted travel time rather than second-by-second meter pulses, so TaxiRates presents a planning range. It does not label the estimate as an exact booked price. A technology-based provider may also offer a qualifying upfront price under Québec’s framework, which is conceptually different from the standard taximeter calculation shown here.

YHU versus Montréal–Trudeau YUL

YHU and YUL should not be treated as interchangeable fare products. YUL has a dedicated airport tariff exception with published downtown fixed fares and airport minimums. CTQ’s tariff-sticker page separately identifies the Montréal–Trudeau and Québec Jean-Lesage airport exceptions. It does not identify YHU as a third fixed-fare airport exception. TaxiRates therefore uses the standard regulated taximeter for YHU rather than copying YUL’s price table.

This distinction is particularly important after YHU’s June 2026 commercial opening. Search queries such as 'Montréal airport taxi fare' can now refer to either airport. TaxiRates gives each airport its own page, facility code and pricing model so the result is based on the airport actually selected. If the traveller enters YUL, the existing YUL rules continue to apply; if the traveller enters YHU, the Longueuil/Québec meter logic applies.

Using YHU fare estimates for Montréal and the South Shore

The airport describes its location as approximately 15 kilometres from downtown Montréal, making road distance meaningful enough that day/night pricing and traffic can noticeably affect the taxi total. Enter the exact hotel, office or residential address rather than only 'Montréal' whenever possible. The route service then calculates the actual road distance from 6400 Airport Road in Longueuil and TaxiRates selects the tariff period from the chosen departure time.

For very early or late flights, remember that the night tariff begins at 11:00 p.m. and continues until 4:59 a.m. The calculator’s Today/Now defaults use the current trip time, while a selected future date and time lets the engine apply the correct period in advance. The useful AEO summary is simple: YHU taxis are available at the terminal around the clock, supported trips use Québec’s normal regulated meter, and there is no published YHU fixed-airport exception comparable with YUL.
