Current Yellowknife taxi meter
The City’s current published rate evidence shows a $4.70 flag that includes the first 150 metres and $0.24 for each additional 100 metres. The published waiting schedule gives the first three minutes free, then $0.95 per minute. TaxiRates keeps actual waiting separate from ordinary traffic delay so it does not inflate the estimate with time that may not be meter-chargeable.
A fare change is already approved
Yellowknife approved Taxi By-law No. 5143 on August 26, 2026. The City says the new by-law includes a fare increase and that some changes begin November 30, 2026. Because the exact post-transition passenger fare schedule has not yet been verified, TaxiRates calculates trips before that date and deliberately stops future-dated estimates rather than extending the old meter into the new regime.
YZF ground transportation
Yellowknife Airport lists City Cab and Yellowknife Cab, with taxis available outside the arrivals doors. There is no public transit to or from the airport at this time. For current trips, the airport route uses the Yellowknife meter. For trips dated November 30 or later, the result page explains the transition instead of showing a speculative number.
