How Lloydminster’s 2025–2027 meter works

Schedule C of Lloydminster Taxi and Vehicle for Hire By-law 17-2025 publishes the permitted charges for 2025 through 2027. The meter starts at $3.75 for the first 117 metres and then adds $0.25 for each additional 117 metres. Waiting time is $60 per hour. The by-law also lists optional permitted charges such as a $10 flat fee for a van or truck and a cleaning fee, which are not automatically part of a normal sedan fare.

TaxiRates models the distance meter and leaves stopped waiting to the actual trip. It does not add the van/truck charge unless the passenger is actually using that vehicle category, and it does not treat a cleaning fee as a normal fare component. This keeps the estimate focused on the standard taxi meter rather than possible incidental charges.

The 2028 meter is already published

Lloydminster’s by-law is unusually helpful for future planning because Schedule C already states the permitted taxi meter from 2028 onward. The flag becomes $4.00 for the first 110 metres, each additional 110 metres is $0.25, and waiting remains $60 per hour. TaxiRates can therefore switch schedules based on the date selected by the user instead of waiting until January 2028 to discover a different meter.

A future-dated trip should use the rule that will be in force on that date, not today’s rate. The calculator treats December 31, 2027 and January 1, 2028 differently. If the City amends the by-law before then, TaxiRates should update the rule from the newer enactment, but until such a change the published Schedule C is the controlling source.

Why YLL can use the Lloydminster meter

The City of Lloydminster explicitly states that Lloydminster Municipal Airport is located within city limits. A city in two provinces with one municipal taxi by-law

Lloydminster straddles Alberta and Saskatchewan, but the City operates under the Lloydminster Charter and its taxi by-law applies to vehicles for hire within the municipal jurisdiction. Passengers should not assume an Alberta city rate or Saskatchewan city rate applies just because one endpoint appears on one side of the provincial border. The City’s own Schedule C is the relevant local fare authority.
