How the Kamloops rate band works
The Passenger Transportation Board moved Region 4 into its new taxi rate structure on April 1, 2026. Instead of forcing every taxi company to use one identical meter, the Board sets an approved band. The current Region 4 limits cover the flag amount, the total fare for a five-kilometre trip and the hourly time rate.
That means two properly licensed Kamloops taxis can charge different approved meter rates and both still comply with the regulator. TaxiRates therefore uses the current band as the verified guide. It does not choose an older Yellow Cab or Kami Cabs meter and silently apply it to whichever operator answers the call.
Taxi options at Kamloops Airport
YKA lists both Kami Cabs and Yellow Cabs for taxi transportation, along with shuttle, limousine and ride-share options. The airport encourages passengers to arrange transportation directly with the provider, and accessible ground transportation should be pre-arranged when required.
Because more than one taxi company serves the terminal, the YKA fare can depend on the taxi provider and its approved rate. There is no airport zone table on the official YKA transportation page. A guide result is therefore more accurate than a single fare formula.
What the Region 4 numbers mean
The PTB band is a regulatory range, not a promise that every five-kilometre ride costs the same amount. The exact meter also depends on the operator and on whether the meter is charging distance or qualifying time. Traffic, waiting and route length can change the final total.
TaxiRates shows the rate band so passengers can recognize the scale of a regulated Kamloops fare and understand why the final meter may differ. When an operator-specific current meter is selected or verified for the requested taxi, a more exact calculation becomes possible.
