The physical meter switches between distance and low-speed time.
Québec’s regulated meter does not simply add the full per-kilometre charge and the full hourly waiting charge together. Above the tariff’s transition speed it follows distance; below that speed it follows elapsed time. TaxiRates uses mapped distance and traffic information to model that structure rather than double-counting a normal trip.
The tariff is selected from the time the trip begins. Day pricing applies from 5:00 a.m. through 10:59 p.m.; night pricing applies from 11:00 p.m. through 4:59 a.m.
Taximeter use is required in this market.
The MRC identifies YBC at Pointe-Lebel, about 15 km from downtown Baie-Comeau. The CTQ requires taximeters throughout Manicouagan.
Because the airport sits outside the downtown core, route distance matters. TaxiRates uses the mapped trip rather than publishing one invented airport-to-city flat fare.

The same Québec day/night tariff applies to ordinary metered taxi trips in the mandatory-taximeter territory. If a provider offers a pre-arranged contract price, compare that quote with the meter estimate rather than treating the two as the same pricing method.
